Hello.

I’m Paul (the one on the left) – a multi-disciplinary designer with a focus on user experience. I help research, design and build products to create more memorable and human experiences in the digital space.

My Work.

Energia Group –
Energy Company.

UX strategy, stakeholder interviews, user research, wireframes, prototype, user testing.

Energia is Ireland’s only green energy supplier. As their sole UX Designer I was responsible for creating a UX strategy for the business and their 7 products. This not only included creating the strategy but also implementing it. From stakeholder interviews, creating wireframes & prototypes, user testing (writing and conducting) and much more.

ROLE

Lead UX Designer

The Brief.

Energia wanted to do the basics brilliantly. Elevating the experience to align in and out of sector expectations and delivering a frictionless registration, in-life and exit experience with best practice user experience was paramount. Below is a summary of the UX work carried out during the research phase of the project.

Competitor Analysis.

Firstly, to gain a deeper understanding of the competitive landscape, I looked at product offerings by competing utility providers on the market using competitive benchmarking. Below is a competitive menu analysis I conducted.

UX Workshops.

To assess the basic functionality of the app, I spoke with internal primary stakeholders individually. Soon after, I facilitated a series of larger-scale UX workshops, inviting more Energia staff members to share their thoughts, ideas and pain points so we could build an app and improve their working lives.

User Personas.

A deep understanding of a target audience is fundamental to creating a best in class experience. User personas helped to answer  one of their most important questions, “Who are we designing for?”

Wireframes.

Based on the findings of the competitive analysis, stakeholder interviews, UX workshops and user personas, I started designing wireframes of the most important user journeys. These included registration, forgot username, reset password, meter reading submission and bill payment among others. Below are some sample wireframes of the registration journey.

User Testing.

The next phase was to test the user journeys on existing Energia customers. This involved writing user testing scripts, recruiting Energia customers, facilitating user testing sessions and mapping the outcomes.

Visual Design.

Before handing over to developers, it was time to bring all the research to life in the form of initial visual designs. Below are some screens from those designs.

About me.

Hi, I’m Paul – a multi-disciplinary designer with a focus on user experience. I help research, design and build digital products to create more memorable and human experiences in the digital space.

I have worked as a designer alongside utility providers, food and FMCG brands, publishers,
construction and real estate companies, retail and hospitality groups, facilities management
companies and creative, ad and interior design agencies.

My experience in UX and UI design have played a huge part in my journey to date. My
particular area of interest within the UX design process is the research phase. Notably
competitive benchmarking, heuristics, qualitative & quantitative research, note-taking,
script and survey creation, conducting usability tests and surveys, identifying user goals,
creating affinity diagrams, personas and customer journey maps before proceeding to  prototyping and wireframing stages. This phase of the process affords considerable insight
into user behaviour, ensuring its findings result in delivering a better all-round human
experience.

I am a visual storyteller and enjoy communicating research and insights to team members and stakeholders in an articulate and comprehensive manner so that all involved have aclear understanding of what to expect and when to expect it.

I’m positive, solution-focused and self-motivated. I’m not afraid of feedback – giving
or receiving. I own my work and strive to consistently optimise outcomes through user
experience design and research processes. I love to brainstorm. I like to keep up to date
with the latest trends and current affairs to inspire and engage.

Whether heading a project, working as part of a team or independently, I manage multiple
projects with ease, have an excellent practical knowledge of UX processes, industry
standard design applications and can adhere to tight deadlines.

Thanks for taking the time to look at my work and get to know a little bit about me. If you’d like to get in touch, you’ve come to the right place!
